How to Navigate Hawaii's Pre-Travel COVID-19 Program

Don't allow confusion over Hawaii's visitor requirements to stop you from booking travel to this bucket-list destination. Below you'll find the process broken down into easy-to-understand steps:

  1. Book your travel as you normally do. That is...with a AAA Travel Consultant. Obviously.

  2. Set up an account with the state's Safe Travels program. You will need to provide personal information and contact information.

  3. Log the details of your trip. Click on the 'Trips' part of the Safe Travels website and add your arrival date, destination airport, flight information, preferred form of ID, and information about where you'll be staying.

  4. Get a COVID test from one of the approved trusted testing partners. To bypass the mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Hawaii, you'll need to provide a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arriving. The tests must be from an approved provider. You can find the 'truster partner' list for the U.S. mainland at this website.

  5. Upload your test results to the Safe Travels website. Go back to the website and click on 'Documents', select your logged trip and upload a PDF copy of your negative test.

  6. Complete the online health questionnaire. Within 24 hours of your flight, go back to the Safe Travels website and click on 'Health Questionnaire' and complete the form. This will ask you questions about how you're feeling, if you've had the flu vaccine, and any medications you may have taken for a fever. This will create a QR code that will be scanned at the airport, letting them know you've completed all the steps.

  7. Enjoy your vacation! Send us lots of pics!
