In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is alerting the public that inspections due in March are extended until further notice.

Also, all licenses, non-driver IDs, and registrations with an expiration date of March 1, 2020 or later are extended. Online license renewals are still available, as long as you don't have a commercial driver's license and don't need to update your photo.

With DMV offices closed during the coronavirus outbreak, the DMV points out that many online transactions are still available. Available online services include requests for DMV records, vehicle transactions, and paying fees for driving penalties and tickets.

Processing of some transactions may be delayed due to the coronavirus, according to the DMV.

In March, the DMV adjourned all Traffic Violation Bureaus through April 17. All road tests are suspended.

The DMV is maintaining a Questions and Answers section through the coronavirus outbreak. See the latest updates on the DMV website.
