Summer Outdoor Concert Survival Kit
See Your Favorite Bands This Summer!
Kip Doyle

Outdoor concert season is in full gear in Western and Central New York. This is your chance to rock out to some of your favorite live performers in the warmth of summer sunshine. But remember, you'll need more than your ticket and cellphone to take on the rigors of huge crowds and blasting speakers.

Make sure your concert memories are ones you'll want to revisit by staying comfortable, clean and dry from the opening act until the headliner's final encore!

Anti-theft bag

If you're going to be at an outdoor concert, you're going to need to bring some stuff (see below) and you're going to need a bag to carry those items. Just make sure your bag has some key anti-theft features, like slash-resistant shoulder straps, RFID blocking, locking compartments and zippers, and locking hardware for attaching the bag to fixed objects.

AAA members get a 20% discount on bags from Samsonite. Get yours today!

Personal mister and fan

Staying cool can be a huge challenge during hot outdoor concerts. Personal misters and personal fans, which are sometimes combined in the same unit, can keep you comfortable for the entire event.

Collapsible water bottle

Your bag is sure to fill up quickly one you buy a couple of band t-shirts and souvenirs. Make sure you have space for water with a collapsible or foldable water bottle that will keep you hydrated all day.

It's no secret - summer concerts are loud. Protect your long term hearing and avoid a concert-ruining headache with a set of earplugs. Disposable foam earplugs are cheap and easy to find, but you might want to invest in earplugs designed for music that won't totally block out the bands.

This one seems obvious, but how many times have you left the house on a sunny day only to realize you left your sunglasses at home? Don't let this happen to you at the big summer concert!

Hand sanitizer

You never know who you are going to run into at a summer concert, or what germs they might be carrying along with them! Getting to a sink to wash your hands might not always be convenient, so carry some hand sanitizer with you.

Baby wipes

Baby wipes - they aren't just for babies! Smart concertgoers know that baby wipes are the quickest way the freshen up after a long, sweaty day of music. Refresh yourself with some baby wipes and get back into the crowd!

Another obvious choice for any summer concert survival kit is sunblock. You won't be using a full sized bottle during the event, so why not pack a smaller amount in a toiletry bottle to conserve space? Or, bring a few travel packets and you'll be "covered"!

An outdoor concert you say? I'm sure you're hoping for sunshine and blue skies. But the forecast can turn quickly. Keep a waterproof poncho with you just in case it starts to pour. And if it doesn't rain, it can double as a nice picnic blanket!

Portable charger

We didn't include your phone on this list because, let's face it, you're bringing that thing with you no matter where you go. Just make sure you have a way to keep your phone running smooth, especially if you are shooting battery-draining photos and videos all day. Many portable USB charges include flashlights, which could come in handy after the sun goes down!
