The Mid-Atlantic is a special destination to visit no matter what the season. Washington DC in the spring during cherry blossom season, the Blue Ridge Parkway in the autumn as the leaves are changing colors, skiing in the Poconos, Hershey Park, Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks or the Jersey Shore in the summer.

Our travel consultants had this to say about their own travels through the Mid-Atlantic region:

  • Washington DC:
“I loved my trip to Washington DC. There was so much to experience: a visit to our congressman’s office, tickets to sit in on the Senate and House meetings, Fords Theater, the Smithsonian museums and so many monuments!" – Liz Staley, Travel Service Center

“We loved Washington DC. There was so many free things to do. This is a good stop on your way to or from the Outer Banks in North Carolina.” – Meghan Sheehan, Camillus

AAA Road Trip Recommendations: National Capital,America’s Historic Main Street

  • Annapolis, Maryland: “The midpoint between Washington DC and Baltimore, MD, we were able to explore the aquarium and zoo in Baltimore, and many of the free museums in Washington." – Stacia Maphis, Ithaca

Hidden Gems: Feel the history on the streets and in the water of the Chesapeake Bay when you visit the harbor town of Chestertown.

AAA Road Trip Recommendations: Baltimore and the Eastern Shore, Maryland National Scenic Freeway, Baltimore’s Historic Charles Street Road Trip

  • New York City: “Get great views of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty from the free Staten Island ferry. You must have dinner in one of NYC’s unique neighborhoods, take a walk in Central Park, pay a visit to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum." – Sarah Feldmann, Amherst

AAA Road Trip Recommendation: Hudson Valley

  • Outer Banks, North Carolina: “We love the slow pace of the beach and the flexibility to have a relaxing beach day or a fun-filled adventure day." – April Mickelsen, Greece

Hidden Gems: Everyone loves the mountains of Asheville and the sands of the Outer Banks, but a hidden delight in North Carolina is the sunset on the Riverwalk in Wilmington

  • Blue Ridge Parkway: “Mabry Mill along the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of my favorite places. I would recommend this area because it is so peaceful, calming and absolutely beautiful." – Penny Kellner, Amherst
